Texans coach says QB Matt Schaub is in great shape, on cusp of being elite

When I think of physical specimens at the quarterback position, a few names come to mind. Cam Newton is one. Colin Kaepernick is another -- have you seen his magazine spread?
Matt Schaub @MSchaub8 is not near the top of that list. But for what it's worth, Matt Schaub is reportedly in great shape, so says Texans quarterbacks coach Karl Dorrell.
"He's had an excellent offseason," Dorrell said of Schaub. "He's in great shape physically, and I think he's ready to take it up a notch going into 2013. If you're an elite player in this league, you're able to be a crunch time player. I know Matt's really right there; he's on the cusp of being one of those players."

Fantasy Analysis:

The closest Schaub ever came to being elite in fantasy was in 2009. Since then, the Texans have a relied on a dangerous running game, and Schaub's numbers have declined. Schaub, 32, will probably post another season of good-not-great numbers (4,000 yards, 22-25 touchdowns). His number of passes and yards-per-attempt average have been falling, and there doesn't seem to be a rebirth coming, no matter how good DeAndre Hopkins is or how far Andre Johnson turns the clock back. Plus, unlike many other QBs who are elite in fantasy, Schaub doesn't create big plays with his mobility. The Texans' offense is based around its run attack. Schaub is more of a game manager now, and that makes him a rather unattractive QB2.
