At wheelchair games, hitting the water skis

TAMPA (FOX 13) -

Tampa is the host city for the National Veterans Wheelchair Games. Nearly 600 athletes are in the Bay area, competing in two dozen events from weightlifting to quad rugby.

Monday on Lake Seminole,the games first-ever water ski exhibition featured 60 veterans participating in water events, several for the first time.

The Winter Haven based charity, UCanSki2, helped put on the event.The charity helps provide the experience of adaptive water sports.

The Veterans Wheelchair Games are free to the public and run through Thursday, July 18th.

Raymond James stadium is the site for Tuesday's field events. Athletes will compete for gold in the discus, shotput and javelin.
